Highlights: Michigan wins the College Football Playoff National Championship with a 34–13 victory over Washington.

At Houston's NRG Stadium on Monday night, Michigan defeated Washington 34–13 thanks to their devastating running game and swarming defense in the College Football Playoff championship game.

The game was promoted as a matchup between Washington's Michael Penix Jr., a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, and Michegan's renowned defense, which is ranked No. 1 in the country.

While Michigan's running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards each rushed for 134 and 104 yards and scored two touchdowns, the Wolverines exerted constant pressure on Penix and forced two interceptions.

During the trophy presentation, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh declared, "There are over 100 Michigan men that are on this team, in uniform tonight." It's incredible what they've accomplished in the last 372 days. We are champions—we just go by the name of national champions.

After Michigan was accused of organizing a large-scale sign-stealing plot that resulted in Harbaugh's temporary suspension late in the season, the victory ended a stormy 15-0 season.
